Yeah, I feel like the decision making process was "We need a new name...well all the cards have Umbra in the name...that's it...Umbra Armor! High Fives and drinks!"
Also, this made me think of the magic system from Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series - where users draw upon the One Source, an eternal pool of the energy of creation, and Channel that energy into their task. It’s a more literal take on touching an ideal realm and causing it to manifest in our physical realm, and I think you might find it interesting: https://wot.fandom.com/wiki/One_Power
Oh I love this—I love the idea of “weaving” as the metaphor (or actual act) of spellcasting. It’s evocative of German romanticism as well (as everything is obv)—the idea that there’s an inner spiritual or metaphysical form of something that manifests a distinct outer form
I absolutely loved this article, both because it made me think about Auras in a way I never had before and reconciled their mechanical and lore functions in a way I never would have thought of, and also because an article incorporating Auras, D&D cosmology, the cosmere, and neoplatonism/pseudo-dionysius is probably the most Dominarian Plowshare thing I can imagine. Thank you for sharing it!
While I fully support changing the name of the ability, I still think they should have gone with "Umbral Armor" instead of just "Umbra Armor".
Agree!! Your version rolls off the tongue way better.
